During my early days of school in Raub, my first exposure to movies were when we, the school children, were given free tickets to watch movies. Tak la selalu. Dlm setahun, sekali je kot. Raub is a very small town. Cinema pun satu je, if tak silap. The cinema was then ruined in a fire. The subsequent cinema pun tak tahan lama. Now, dah tak de langsung kot... Or dah ada, but I was not aware. However, I remembered how excited I was to go to the movies back then. Couldn't remember what movie or macam mana boleh dapat free or siapa yang sponsor ticket free.
Next phase, was the secondary school days in one of the boarding schools down south. We got to watch movies almost every week as our entertainment. After all, all work and no play makes Jill a dull girl. And there were lots of Jills on the verge of dullness.:P Anyhow, the movie was slotted every Friday nights, outdoor, in our school compound. And if the weather was bad, we watched the movie in the hall. We always looked forward to this weekly event. Each dorm will have their own mattresses or boxes or anything that can be used to sit on to watch the movie. Awal2 petang, masing2 dah bawak kotak or alas to spread on the ground. Book tempat yang paling best, ala-ala first class. We definitely had fun. We had our fair share of screaming kalau cerita hantu, we let out the love sigh kalau cerita cintan cintun, and we cursed the bad guys kalau cerita action. Those were the days. Oh ya, setiap minggu sorang kena bayar 50 sen for the movies.
Today, the excitement of watching the movies with the girls was relived when Emy, Mas and I watched the movie Parker. Of course, as usual, our outing tak sah kalau tak de makan-makan. We had lunch at the Garden Lifestyle Store & Cafe, MidValley. Nice place with a very nice ambience.
Emy had olio pasta. Looks yummy.
I had Pan-Seared Duck Breast. I am not a duck-person. I can't actually recall when did I ever eat duck or whether I have eaten duck at all before. Saja nak try. Furthermore, nak go full force with the no-nasi-diet la konon. Visually, not so impressive kan? Taste pun so-so. Vege dia tak sedap, esp the red cabbage. Padan la dgn harga yang tak mahal sgt kot.
Emy had the iced blended mocha drink while I had a combo of fruits juice named Garden Punch. Not bad, sedap...
Mas who came later had mee goreng mamak. Love the presentation, esp the heart-shaped egg.
Mas had watermelon drink while Emy ordered her second drink, Iced Lychee Tea. Cute jug-like glasses. I think the drinks offered here are worth for your money.
We also had desserts; carrot cake and cheese cake. Carrot cake kureng sedap. The almonds sprinkled on the top rasa mcm dah tak fresh. But the cheese cake sedap.
Afterwards, we went for the movie. A very nice movie, packed with action. Tapi kena control la jugak. Tak boleh nak excited mcm masa tgk wayang kat sekolah dulu..ha ha... Emy suruh simpan tiket wayang ni, sbg kenangan tgk wayang sama-sama...:D
After the movie, tak sah kalau tak minum2 dulu. We headed for Kenny Rogers. Emy and I each had Hot Chocolicious Milk while Mas had Cappucino.
We ordered 1 Jacket Potato with beef filling to share among us. Very nice.
We also had this Warm Chocolate Oasis cake and cheese cake. The Chocolate Oasis is very nice. Inside the cake, you will find melted chocolate. Memang sedap. Cheese cake dia pulak kureng.
And I managed to overdosed myself with chocolate. Sikit punya susah nak abiskan my drink. Counting all the calories, I think mcm tak de makna je the no-nasi resolution.:P
My family went to watch a Malay movie entitled 'Hantu Kak Limah Balik Rumah' some time ago. It is a comedy ghost story which happens in a village called Kg Pisang. There was a movie named Zombie Kg Pisang previously. And the Kak Limah movie is not a sequel but rather another extraordinary tale that happened in the same village.
The story is about Kak Limah who was claimed to be a ghost and was seen terrorizing and terrifying the villagers. Lots of funny scenes transpired when the villagers went all out in trying to solve the problem and banish Kak Limah's ghost. One scene I liked best is when the ghost-buster or 'bomoh hantu' tried to summon Kak Limah's spirit tapi alih-alih yang datang Hantu Neng Nak pulak...
Another movie that we watched with the same genre was Ngangkung. A movie about 3 friends who took a short-cut to be rich by using black magic in order to get a winning lottery ticket. Lots of funny scenes and slap-in-the-face scenes when finally they realized there's no short-cut to riches but instead maybe a short-cut to hell.
One scene that amused me the most is the scene in a GP's clinic. The GP was trying to dissuade a couple from having an abortion. Well, obviously, the couple was having an extra-marital affair. However, the methods of abortion that the doctor exlained were grossly funny and out of the world. Understood, it is a funny movie and the scene is supposed to be hilarious. But still, having a doctor who gave such a consultation.... Ok... I'll accept the scene for the sake of its funniness
Anyhow, my kids enjoyed both movies so much.
Favorite dialogue -
From Hantu Kak Limah movie:
- Husiinn.... Husiinnn...
- Ce cerita... ce cerita...
From Ngangkung:
- 'Atuk, nenek... cucu tumpang kencing...' 'Bila masa pulak aku kawin dgn atuk kau..'
And thank God, my kids were not spooked by the nursery rhyme 'Enjit-enjit semut, siapa sakit naik atas' which was frequently sang by 'hantu' Kak Limah in the movie.
I don't think I have ever watched Toy Story or Toy Story 2. Somehow a movie about a bunch of toys became alive when no humans are in sight, having their own story does not excites me much. So, when I read people's statuses on FB on how they like Toy Story 3 so much, I was sceptical
. And I half-heartedly agree to watch Toy Story 3 when we went to the cinema 2 weekends ago. I was hoping to see Karate Kid actually, tapi tak de la pulak masa tu.
Despite the few seconds when I fell asleep, I enjoyed every second of the movie. Hmm... kata enjoy, tapi boleh terlelap pulak...
Nothing wrong with the movie. It must have been due to exhaustion. So, yes!! I agree with lots of other people who said Toy Story 3 rocks.
The movie is about a group of toys which belong to Andy. It started when Andy, who has grown up, was about to go to college. In the movie I got to meet:
Woody the sheriff, who is particular with his hat and gave me a heart-stopping moment when almost got caught by the janitor during his escape from the restroom in the day care center
.
Buzz Lightyear, the space ranger, who has a button that can change him to the demo mode (you don't want him to be in this mode) or wrongly reset him to speak Espanol (he was very charming in this mode, though
).
Jesse, the pretty and charming cowgirl, who was charmed with Buzz in his Spanish mode
.
Rex, the dinosaur, whose tail was pointed enough to cut through a trash bag and enable the toys to escape from being dumped into a garbage truck.
Mr and Mrs Potato, a lovable couple with detachable parts. One of Mrs Potato's eyes was accidentally detached and was left in Andy's house so she can still see Andy's room if she closes the other eye (even though she was miles away). Mr Potato's parts were once detached from the body and he had to use a tortilla as a temporary body.
Slinky Dog who has a metal slinky spring as its body. His body was badly abused and entangled by the kids in the daycare center.
The trio of 3-eyed aliens from the Pizza Planet who have an obsession for The Claw, aka the crane, and they used the Claw to save all the toys from being incinerated in the garbage dump.
Barbie who became the proof that not all blondes are dumb
. This is when she cleverly tricked Ken.
Ken, who has closets full of clothes, but in the end sacrificed his vanity when he is seen half-naked with only his boxer shorts on.
Lotso Bear, the huggable-turned-mean bear, who became deceitful after being replaced and forgotten by his owner. He kept the day care center like a prison and the toys were treated like prisoners.
Big Baby, Lotso's right hand man (or baby). Even though he's a baby, he's big and is like a giant compared to the other toys.
Cymbal banging monkey
, who has very big eyes and was assigned by Lotso Bear to watch over a set of monitors in order to prevent the toys from escaping. He doesn't speak but when he sees anything out of ordinary, he bangs his cymbals and squeak his monkey's voice loudly, and that will alert the Bear. Freaky thing... I guess the sounds are not audible to humans.
Bonnie, a nice little girl who kept her toys well, who finally received all of Andy's toys and they all lived happily ever after.
And there are other characters as well such as Chatter Telephone (nice fella), Bookworm (nerd!!!) and Hamm (bloated piggy bank).
All in all, 2 adults and 4 kids enjoyed the movie very much. Err... make that 3 kids. One kid was asleep throughout the movie. Better that way, or else that one kid would be seen exploring up and down the aisle of the cinema. Now, having watched that movie, should I feel guilty for the numerous toys that I have broken, forgotten or thrown away when I was a child?
It has nothing to do with 'kipas sate' (skewered meat grilled on coal fire with constant fanning of the fire).
It has nothing to do with 'kipas orang' (sucking-up to people aka sycophant).
It actually stands for Kiosk Pembaharuan Pasport (Pasport Renewal Kiosk).
Hubby and I went to Immigration Pusat Bandar Damansara the other day to renew my passport. And we were advised to use the kiosk since it will save our time.
How to use the machine:
First, you need to fill in this envelope. Make sure all the necessary documents are ready.
Then you go to one of the machines. I think there are 4 or 5 of them.
Just follow the instructions on the screen.
1. Put your passport into the slot.
2. Insert your MyKad into the slot.
The machine will detect and read your MyKad.
3. Place your thumb (right or left) on the sensor.
Once the machine has detected and verified your thumb print along the passport and MyKad particulars, removed your thumb, passport and MyKad.
4. Pay for the new passport. Only RM50 and RM100 notes are accepted. You may choose a period of 2 years or 5 years. RM100 for 2 years. RM300 for 5 years.
Let me do the calculation for you. RM100=2 years. If you renew every 2 years, you only pay RM300 for 6 years as opposed to single payment of RM300 for 5 years
. But the setback is, if you renew the passport for 2 years, kena la pulak pergi immigration after 2 years and kena beratur lagi and kena tunggu lagi...
5. Lastly, put in the envelope containing a photocopy of your MyKad, your passport sized photo and your old pasport.
A receipt will be printed out and you should be able to collect your new passport at the specified counter on Level 1 of the building after 2 hours. Kena ambik no giliran jugak la. So, the kiosk only save you half of the waiting time but you still need to wait to get the new passport.
While waiting, we had lunch at Secret Recipe.
I had the infamous Tom Yam Kung.
and a ridiculous childish drink of Oreo Milkshake...Childish pun childish la... janji sedap...
Hubby had the Thai Style Fried Rice. He shook his head when he saw me taking out my camera. However, he readily obliged taking the photo of this dish... This is what I call: behind every succesfull successful blogging wife, there's a husband with a camera...
We finished our lunch and we done strolling around the area aimlessly so we went up to Level 1 and was told that the passport is impossible to be issued within 2 hours since they were having printing problems... I was advised to come again another day... Looks like the KiPPAS is not KiPPASing fast enough...
Finally we ended up watching a movie, The Wolfman. It was kind of boring. Same story line, same concept, kind of straightforward predictable ending. I actually fell asleep a few times
. There are lots of versions of Werewolf movies and I don't know why they keep doing movies like that. Are they obsessed or what? It was a waste of time watching it but time wasted with your loved one is worth wasting...
Working in the metropolitan city of Kuala Lumpur has its plus point. We get a holiday on February 1st while our neighbouring state, Selangor, does not. And it’s even better if your kids happen to go to school in Selangor. Meaning, mummy and daddy get to enjoy the holiday while kids are at school
.
So, hubby and I did just that yesterday. We went to Wangsa Walk. Why eh… of all places.. Frankly, no special reason. Just that we have never been there and thought of taking a look at the place. The name fits the building very well because except the few things that we bought at the Guardian, all we did was just walking..
We also had Udang Balado (which I think is a variant of Udang Berlada and it is exactly that, Udang with chilli paste on top) together with white rice and iced lemon tea (which was too soury for my liking).
It was still very early to go back home after lunch (ni la dia... parents yg lupa diri..
) Since the Wangsa Walk lack of cineplex, we headed for 1Utama instead. Trying to catch the Avatar show. On the way there, we passed by a Nescafe billboard featuring Maya Karin. Hubby said: 'Maya Karin ke tu? Bila masa Maya Karin jadi putih macam tu?' 'Well....' I said, 'with the digital technology, kan senang je nak edit2 photo bagi putih'. Hubby still had issue with that... So I said, 'Takkan la hitam sangat Maya Karin tu... Dia dgn Yang (my nama manja dgn hubby) mana lagi putih?' He said..' dia lagi gelap... dia putih sikit je dari abang'. Nak senyum lebar ke tak ni... Come to think about it, he never said I am fairer...
Anyway, we reached 1Utama, too late for Avatar. So we watched this instead, The Spy Next Door.
Nice... As usual, Jackie Chan's movies are always full of witty action. And the stunts were not disappointing at all. I enjoyed the movie.
Before going home, we bought this for kids. We still remember our kids, you know... Especially when they made sure they were not forgotten. Kejap2 telefon. And I had to ignore some of the calls while in the cinema. Speaking of kids, as we were going up and down the escalators at 1Utama, we were reminded of the kid whose foot got stuck in the escalator. And we were observing the escalators trying to figure out how such a terrible thing could happen. It seems impossible but it did happen. My heart goes out to the kid and the parents. Hopefully the boy recovered from the injury
.
My holiday mood has not ended yet. More agenda today and more jelajah and more story...
