I was in Port Dickson some time ago for a sanggar kerja aka workshop. And since it was held over the weekend, my family went with me. We stayed at Avillion Admiral Cove hotel. I stayed there once in another workshop (oh yeah... we have quite a number of these workshops) earlier. I wrote about that stay here.
This time, I had a different room compared to the previous stay. A different room layout and design and a different scenery. Our room faced the other wing of the hotel, meaning facing other people's room. Sungguh tidak menarik.
The room has an extra day bed that is big enough for 2 of my kids.
A picture of the bathroom. Ha ha... beratur bukan main to have their photo taken... in a toilet pulak tu...
The scenery around the hotel.
The kids having fun at the pool.
The restaurant where we had our meals. It was as bad as before. Still not many varieties.
And there was an art gallery but pity, the location of the gallery is not strategic at all. Not many people will walk along the hallway and will surely missed the gallery.
The workshop was partially team building and partially discussion on the roots of the organization's problem and suggestions to overcome the problem. We were supplied with these multicolored papers. I felt like I was in a kindy or something . The team building part was quite interesting. We played games such as this one. A long rod with different diameter and weight throughout its length. Each member of the group lined up alongside the rod and all members need to touch the rod with only one finger. And together bring the rod down, with the finger still touching. Several funny and friction moments arose during the activity. Moral/Lessons learnt:
Sometimes in a task, there's no clear leader. Thus, masing-masing tak tahu nak buat apa.
And sometimes, everyone is a leader. Thus, chaos. Semua nak bagi instructions.
And true enough, disagreement and dissatisfaction do occur between those who gave out instructions and those at the receiving ends. Just like in an organization.
We also danced. I can't imagine how clownish we may have looked . But the moral/lessons learnt:
A dance like the one we did will of course look silly if you are doing it alone. But it will not seemed so silly anymore when everyone's doing it. Apply this to an organization. A thing or a task or a job, will look absurd or impossible if only 1 person is doing it. Together, hey... it may work.
We were supplied with this article about letting go and moving on. To move on, some things must be changed and some things must be let go. Or else, we will be just like monkeys who won't let go when they got hold of something they like. But yes, we often do not like changes especially when we are in our comfort zone.
Then we discussed, and discussed some more and presented what we discussed, and more discussion... Pheww... I think that's why some of us channel their energy to these creative and colourful paper crafts. Cool though . At the end of the day, we have a taskforce set up, some actions being done and the bestest of all, we got unrecorded leave to compensate the number of hours we spent working over the weekend .
