Toys Alive
I don't think I have ever watched Toy Story or Toy Story 2. Somehow a movie about a bunch of toys became alive when no humans are in sight, having their own story does not excites me much. So, when I read people's statuses on FB on how they like Toy Story 3 so much, I was sceptical raised eyebrows. And I half-heartedly agree to watch Toy Story 3 when we went to the cinema 2 weekends ago. I was hoping to see Karate Kid actually, tapi tak de la pulak masa tu.

Despite the few seconds when I fell asleep, I enjoyed every second of the movie. Hmm... kata enjoy, tapi boleh terlelap pulak...thinking Nothing wrong with the movie. It must have been due to exhaustion. So, yes!! I agree with lots of other people who said Toy Story 3 rocks.

The movie is about a group of toys which belong to Andy. It started when Andy, who has grown up, was about to go to college. In the movie I got to meet:

Woody the sheriff, who is particular with his hat and gave me a heart-stopping moment when almost got caught by the janitor during his escape from the restroom in the day care center whew!.

Buzz Lightyear, the space ranger, who has a button that can change him to the demo mode (you don't want him to be in this mode) or wrongly reset him to speak Espanol (he was very charming in this mode, though cool).

Jesse, the pretty and charming cowgirl, who was charmed with Buzz in his Spanish mode batting eyelashes.

Rex, the dinosaur, whose tail was pointed enough to cut through a trash bag and enable the toys to escape from being dumped into a garbage truck.

Mr and Mrs Potato, a lovable couple with detachable parts. One of Mrs Potato's eyes was accidentally detached and was left in Andy's house so she can still see Andy's room if she closes the other eye (even though she was miles away). Mr Potato's parts were once detached from the body and he had to use a tortilla as a temporary body.

Slinky Dog who has a metal slinky spring as its body. His body was badly abused and entangled by the kids in the daycare center.

The trio of 3-eyed aliens from the Pizza Planet who have an obsession for The Claw, aka the crane, and they used the Claw to save all the toys from being incinerated in the garbage dump.

Barbie who became the proof that not all blondes are dumbidea. This is when she cleverly tricked Ken.

Ken, who has closets full of clothes, but in the end sacrificed his vanity when he is seen half-naked with only his boxer shorts on.

Lotso Bear, the huggable-turned-mean bear, who became deceitful after being replaced and forgotten by his owner. He kept the day care center like a prison and the toys were treated like prisoners.

Big Baby, Lotso's right hand man (or baby). Even though he's a baby, he's big and is like a giant compared to the other toys.

Cymbal banging monkey monkey, who has very big eyes and was assigned by Lotso Bear to watch over a set of monitors in order to prevent the toys from escaping. He doesn't speak but when he sees anything out of ordinary, he bangs his cymbals and squeak his monkey's voice loudly, and that will alert the Bear. Freaky thing... I guess the sounds are not audible to humans.

Bonnie, a nice little girl who kept her toys well, who finally received all of Andy's toys and they all lived happily ever after.

And there are other characters as well such as Chatter Telephone (nice fella), Bookworm (nerd!!!) and Hamm (bloated piggy bank).

All in all, 2 adults and 4 kids enjoyed the movie very much. Err... make that 3 kids. One kid was asleep throughout the movie. Better  that way, or else that one kid would be seen exploring up and down the aisle of the cinema. Now, having watched that movie, should I feel guilty for the numerous toys that I have broken, forgotten or thrown away when I was a child? tongue
Slash Live in KL
Woww!! I heard over the radio about Slash coming to KL. 5th of August 2010. Cool...cool Details on venue and ticket can be found here. I was once so hooked on Guns N' Roses songs. Still am actually blushing. In fact, I have the Sweet Child O' Mine tune as my ring tone. That's my all time favourite. But other songs are cool as well. November Rain, Don't Cry, Knockin on Heaven's Door... apa lagi haa.. lupa dah confused. Slash's guitar skills coupled with Axl Rose's voice, memang meletup. And I had a collection of their cassettes back then (yeahh... mp3 was still an alien then, so kena beli kaset je). Now, I don't even know where the collections are thinking.

So, Slash is coming. Yes, I'm ecstatic, and yes, I'm excited but to go....naahhh... Not even thinking of going. Dah tak kuasa nak layan.  But looking back to the old rock daysrock on!, I can't help but posting this song here.

Sweet Child O' Mine

She's got a smile that it seems to me
Reminds me of childhood memories
Where everything
Was as fresh as the bright blue sky

Now and then when I see her face
She takes me away to that special place
And if I'd stare too long
I'd probably break down and cry

Sweet child o' mine
Sweet love of mine

She's got eyes of the bluest skies
As if they thought of rain
I hate to look into those eyes
And see an ounce of pain

Her hair reminds me of a warm safe place
Where as a child I'd hide
And pray for the thunder
And the rain
To quietly pass me by

Sweet child o' mine
Sweet love of mine

Where do we go
Where do we go now
Where do we go
Sweet child o' mine
Another Randau rendezvous
The 'Sweet Child O' Mine' ring tone alerted me of an incoming call the other day. I was at the hospital then. My father was just discharged after his TKR operation. Alhamdulillah.

The call was from Hemy. Dia tanya, 'Esok free tak?'

Whenever she called and asked whether I'm free or not, there must be a plan 'baik punya'. Apparently, our mutual friend from school, Hanie Fauzi, who resides in Kedah, will be in KL for a short while. Great!! dancingLet's meet. And the meeting place, none other than Randau cafe which I have mentioned numerous times in my previous blog posts.

So, we had a small get together while having a late lunch. Hemy, Eika, Zie, me, Hanie and Aiz. Also visible in the pic superbaby Alif, Aiz's precious and me-no-more-baby, me-big-girl-already Qis, Zie's sweetheart.

Both Hemy and Hanie were my classmates from Form 1 to 3. Then, going into Form 4, I opted for Science class while Hemy and Hanie continued in the Social Science subjects together with Eika, Zie and Aiz. Hmmm....if you think Science people can't mix with Soc Sci people, you're wrong...shame on you

We were joined by another friend of ours, Ita Nordin who is celebrating her 13th year of marriage.

Ita was also my classmate from Form 1 to 4. But then, in Form 5, she moved up to 5 Science 1 class while I was stuck in 5 Science 3 class. I think I have not had enough DHA at that time winking.

This is the cake that Eika made for Ita for her anniversary. We had the chance to taste the cake (not this one) but some cupcakes that Eika made using the same ingredients as Ita's cake.

Anyhow, the last time I was in Randau, I had mee rebus tulang. So this time, I ordered Laksa Sarawak. Looks delicious isn't it? Note: the cili padi in soy sauce is not the condiment for Laksa Sarawak. That was for Hanie's Char Kue Teow. Hey, I can see the reflections of Aiz and Zie in the pic. That's how clean and shiny the table at Randau is...big grin

We also had this dessert, puding sagu. Hmm..hmm... good...drooling

I also bought two boxes of this kerepek pedas. Definitely da bomb in taste. Super best!! thumbs up No wonder Hemy borong sampai 4 bekas happy.

Well, this is yet another episode at Randau. And I'm sure this won't be the last.
Blame it on the Voice

Voice navigation starts.
Good, it's functioning well.

Wishful thinking: I think the above won't happen if that thing emits the voice of Faizal Tahir or Jason Mraz. tongue

Note: the above events occurred en route to Kota Warisan via MEX highway.  Some parts have been truncated for the sake of the readers big grin. I was with Elin, a friend from school. However the back-talk above was not uttered out loud. For the sake of Elin. winking
Man of Steel: Addendum
This is an addendum to the previous post.

Alhamdulillah, the operation went well.
A picture of him before being wheeled into the OT.

After about 3 1/2 hours, he was wheeled back to the ward.

And my father is on the road to recovery. However, compared to the first TKR operation he had, the recovery this time was not as smooth. He developed breathlessness the night after the operation. It gave a hell of a scare to my brother who was with him that night. Almost took my breath too when I heard the news. He was also nauseated and his blood test showed low hemoglobin.  He had to be given blood transfusion and he underwent an endoscopy to rule out any ulceration of the gastrointestinal tract and internal bleeding. But the results were ok.

Other than that, he looks ok. I pray that his condition will improved and he recover well. Aminn...
Man of Steel
In April this year, my father underwent total knee replacement (TKR) operation on his left knee. He has been having osteoarthritis (OA) in both of his knees for some years now. He has been taking pain killers to control the symptoms and glucosamine pills to counteract the progress of the disease. But this degenerative disease is one that cannot be reversed that easily. So finally he decided to go for an operation. Alhamdulillah, the operation was a success.

Besides having OA, he has also been diagnosed with hypertension and diabetes mellitus many years ago. And he has been popping medications day and night like they are sweets or candies. And I'm amazed with his discipline. He stick to his routine of taking the medications without fail. And never complaining. Should I compare my compliance with his, mine is pathetically way behind blushing.

Now, 2 months after the operation on his left knee, he's going to do it again on his right knee. Earlier, the doctor advised him against doing on both knees simultaneously considering his multiple health conditions and his age. Now, after a couple of months of recovering, he's ready to do it again. Today (29th of June 2010) is the day. So instead of one, he's going to have 2 knees with titanium implants. He's literally the man of steel. I pray the operation will go as smoothly as the first one praying.

The x-ray of my father's left knee, post-operation.

My father is turning 82 this September. He's very fragile now, I know, but I still regard him as the strong, protective father figure trying his best to give the best to his children. In fact he has been the man of steel all these years. I guess, it's the children's turn to be the steel for him to depend on.

This is rather late but I am wishing happy father's day to all fathers, especially mine and the father to my kids.
To US and back, twice
I had this on my FB status some time ago: 'Norazlina Mohamed is off to US'.

And I received a few comments, all of 'em thinking I'm going to United States. But in reality, I was actually off to Ulu Sepri, a small remote place in the state of Negeri Sembilan. Ha ha... laughing These acronyms can be interpreted in so many ways. Like the PPD module that we have in our curriculum meant something else to other unknowing person. Might meant Pejabat Pendidikan Daerah to them. Another example: LOL. Generally known as laugh out loud. But can also means Lots of Love, Lots of Luck or maybe Lack of Laughter. Because when you typed LOL, you may not even laughing out loud or smile.  rolling on the floor (FYI, I wasn't rolling on the floor laughing when I put that emoticon there)

Ok, I'm digressing from the topic. So, I went to Ulu Sepri. There's a national camp site there and our faculty has been using camps like this for our students as part of their curriculum.

En route there, I saw a  hot spring place. I think it would be nice to try it out one day.

During the camp, the students will be involved in activities pertaining to issues relating to their life as medical students as well as in their future career as doctors with much emphasis on generic skills.

The activities include:

small group discussion

telematch

morning aerobic

jungle trekking

sketch/drama

and splash time. The camps that we have been using for this activities are usually near to a river. And students are given a slot to have some fun time in the river. I would like to take a dip too but decided not to when the river's condition is like this. Such a pity.

Being a facilitator to the students, my accommodation in the camp was considered tolerable. I've been through worse winking. The facilitators stayed in Rumah Tamu.

This is the interior. 3 rooms with 3 bathrooms and a kitchen as well as living room and dining area. But no TV. Tension...at wits' end

I was not VIP enough to stay in this VIP house big grin.

Meals are more than enough. 6 meals per day. I skipped some of the meals especially the supper and morning tea.

We had nasi lemak one morning. These trays reminded me of my school years. You have to peel the boiled egg yourself.  And the regulations in the camp is that, you need to wash your own trays and cups regardless whether you are the Professors or even the Dean. Once in a while, you need to have some feelings of humbleness.

Besides this camp in US, I have also been to the camp in UK (Ulu Kenas). And earlier, my family and I made another trip to US. Not Ulu Sepri, but Universal Studio big grin.

IMHO, I think I have had enough of acronyms in one entry. GTG. ICYAL8ER. peace sign
